Don’t Let your Guilt Guide you
I just happened to be passing by my father’s assisted living home and it started—the guilt I felt about being so close and not stopping in to see him. This guilt creeps in, especially when you live far away. Here I was visiting, and should probably see him as much as possible, but I really needed to get some errands done. Well, of course, I stopped to visit him. Guess what? He wasn’t that happy to see me. I had caught him off guard. He has a routine and I threw him off of it by surprising him. Lesson learned: Just because I happen to be passing by my Dad’s assisted living facility doesn’t mean I have to feel guilty about not stopping to see him. He may not appreciate the “interruption” anyway!
