Life is Too Short to Worry
Think about all of the times you have worried about something in your life, and it was all for nothing. We worry because we are afraid that something we don’t want to happen is going to happen. Then, it usually never happens how we expect it to–if at all.
Here are some things I do if I am worried about something. These tricks usually make me feel more confident and peaceful.
- I will put aside 5 minutes a day just to think/worry about whatever it is that I am distraught over. After those 5 minutes are up, I am not allowed to worry for the rest of the day. Chances are many of those thoughts I had during those 5 minutes will be out of my head the next day.
- Sometimes, I will write down whatever is bothering me. Then, I take an objective look at my worries and see how mundane they become on paper. Then, I realize how unproductive it was to worry about them in the first place.
- I also do the opposite. I keep a gratitude journal and write down the good things going on in my life. Reading them reminds me of the blessings in my life, and I can concentrate on those instead.
- Helping someone else is a great way to not only stop worrying, but to let go of unneeded stress. Helping someone else with their problems helps me forget about my own, and feel great helping others in the process.
Keep in mind that there are some things that are never worth worrying about–
The Past—There is nothing you can do accept it and move forward.
Death—It is going to happen.
What others think—Be yourself–It is very freeing.
If all else fails, get professional help. Worriers tend to be over thinkers, so think about how much better you will feel when you stop.
